Dr. Simon O’Rafferty
B.Des. (Industrial Design), MSc (Sustainable Development), PhD (Design Policy)
Simon is a Postdoctoral Fellow and his research, funded by the Environmental Protection Agency, focuses on examining the design of policy interventions for sustainable behaviour change. Simon was previously senior researcher at the Ecodesign Centre and acted as adviser to governments, public and private sectors on design for sustainability and social innovation. Simon is published widely on design, policy and sustainability. He is an expert evaluator for Horizon 2020 and has been an invited speaker on design by organisations such as the BBC, British Council and UK Technology Strategy board.
Simon was co-director of social design agency that worked on co-design and public service design. He was a winner of the 2014 EU social innovation competition for a start-up social enterprise he co-founded. He co-directed a UK social design network "Think Ark" and runs Trade School Dublin.
